Yesterday’s results: 3-3, winner due to positive odds (assuming equal bets)
The Panthers controlled the play and a quick start in the third period when everything was tied at 1 made the difference, because the Islanders made a late push. Cash in that money line bet (+110). Despite getting severely out shout in the early stages, the Coyotes jumped out to an early lead. It looked like they would need to play catch up in the third but a Nashville goal was called off for being off side. Arizona pulled away late for a second money line win (+120). The Avalanche cruised to a 4-0 victory as Dallas seems to have lost their defensive touch over the break, a puck line win (+195)
Unfortunately I can’t pick an over/under to save my life. The Lightning couldn’t get an empty netter in their 3-2 win and despite the inflated line, the Blackhawks and Oilers hit the over.
The Penguins are having issues on their backend and are now one loss away from being eliminated by a team that went 0-4 against the 2019-2020 Detroit Red Wings. Chin up, Pens fans, if the squad drops the next game you still have Phase 2 of the Draft Lottery to look forward to.
Only 5 games today as the noon time slot is dropped off the schedule.
Canucks v. Wild – 2:30 ET – NHL Network – Series tied 1-1
I haven’t watched much of this series due to inconvenient start times. The team that wins this game will be at a huge advantage in the series. I predicted Minnesota in 5 in the series preview, and the odds have this game as a coin flip, with -110 odds for both money lines. We’ve only had one overtime game in the qualifying series, so let’s hope this one goes to an extra session. PICK: 3 way money line draw (+285)
Capitals (0-0-1) v. Flyers (1-0-0) – 4:00 ET – NBCSN
The Caps had a tough shootout loss against a very talented Lightning team in their opener. The Flyers beat up on a Bruins team that has yet to find its A game. PICK: Capitals puck line -1.5 (+195)
Golden Knights (1-0-0) v. Blues (0-1-0) – 6:30 ET – NHL Network
The Blues were .1 seconds away from picking up a point, and potentially two, against a great Avalanche team. The Knights slept through the first half before finding their scoring touch against the Stars in their opener. St. Louis only managed one goal against Colorado, but I’m banking on some more offense today. PICK: Over 5.5 (+115)
Maple Leafs v. Blue Jackets – 8:00 ET – NBCSN – Series tied 1-1
Am I overvaluing Toronto’s offensive talent at the expense of Columbus’s team defense? John Tortorella didn’t mince words (does he ever?) after his team’s poor performance in game 2. Based upon this exchange, I don’t think he waited until after the game to express his opinions.
Some may say the Jackets will come out inspired. Just look at Miles Teller in Whiplash (oops, spoilers). I tend to think this berating can be counterproductive. PICK: Leafs puck line -1.5 (+170)
Flames v. Jets – 10:30 ET – CNBC – Flames lead series 2-1
Is there anyone still healthy in this series? I highly recommend checking the injury reports prior to betting on this one, as there are still a few players whose status is uncertain as of publishing. I still think Winnipeg has been more severely impacted, so I’ll continue to ride with the Flames. PICK: Flames puck line -1.5 (+160)
