Yesterday’s results: 4-1* (*If you faded every pick).
The Coyotes got off to a quick start and the Predators could not recover in time. The Bruins are still in off-season mode. The Avalanche and Blues watched the exhibition games and figured you weren’t allowed to score more than two goals a piece. The Blue Jackets defensive structure won the day, and I went to bed without watching Wild/Canucks, because I figured with my usual 1-4 betting record, overtime was guaranteed. Instead, the Wild shutout Vancouver 3-0.
Hockey betting is riskier than other sports, IMO, which was made obvious by Arizona’s early score shown below. This freak play kicked off their early rally, and they would win by 1. Although the puck line bet was never really in play, this game could have turned out much differently if Nashville finds the back of the net first.
TODAY’S PICKS: Remember, there’s are picks on what NOT to do. Proceed with caution. All games are on NBCSN.
Rangers v. Hurricanes – Noon ET, Canes lead series 1-0
The Hurricanes controlled the pace in game 1. Aho was arguably the best player on the ice. I picked the Rangers to win the series in 5, but I didn’t think Panarin would be relatively invisible. My confidence is shook, so I’ll go with the postseason trend. PICK: Under 5.5 (-110)
Jets v. Flames – 2:30 ET, Flames lead series 1-0
The Jets took a beating in game 1. Last I heard Schiefele will be out for game 2. The Jets will either find their legs or be too busy looking for retribution, although I lean toward the former. Blake Wheeler already answered for the perceived cheap shot by fighting Matthew Tkachuk. Still, the loss looms large for Winnipeg. I predicted the Flames in 5, but that might be accelerated with the injury. PICK: Flames puck line -1.5 (+175)
Capitals v. Lightning – 4:00 ET
It’s the first round robin game for two of the most exciting and well balanced teams in the league. This should be an entertaining tilt that I am forced to listen to on the radio. This one is a coin flip for me, although I would give a slight edge to Tampa. The opposite of chicken isn’t tuna, it’s salmon. PICK: Capitals money line (+115)
Stars v. Golden Knights – 6:30 ET
Another round robin opener. Unders have been hitting consistently. The odds are telling you that the under is heavily favored. My name is George, I’m unemployed, and I live with my parents. PICK: Over 5.5 (+125)
Canadiens v. Penguins – 8:00 ET, Habs lead series 1-0
The Canadiens went 0-4 against the 2019-2020 Detroit Red Wings. I refuse to believe they will win this series. PICK: Pens puck line -1.5 (+150)
Blackhawks v. Oilers – 10:30 ET, Hawks lead series 1-0
The Blackhawks couldn’t eliminate McDavid, but they controlled the play and capitalized on some poor Edmonton defense and goaltending. I predicted a close series with the Oilers prevailing in 5, so I expect a big bounce back game tonight. Put on some coffee. PICK: Oilers puck line -1.5 (+175)
